Course Overview

The purpose of this Two day session on stuck pipe prevention is to provide the knowledge and understanding of the causes of stuck pipe, focuses on key mechanisms which pipe becomes stuck and how the sticking mechanisms can be prevented through proper planning an operational procedures. The course will also cover the precautions to be taken to avoid stuck-pipe situations as well as examples of freeing methods to solve such problems

Training of drill crews should aim to develop the drill crews’ understanding of what is going on beneath the drill floor. The aim should be to develop their ability to “see” what is happening downhole and, from the data that they have, predict what is likely to occur in the future. For example, it is better to deal with indications of poor hole cleaning than to continue drilling until the drill string is stuck.

Course participants will learn that predicting a stuck-pipe situation, understanding of the causes of stuck pipe with warning sign and the means to reduce stuck pipe as a significant cause of lost time incidents and related costs.

Certification

Candidates will sit the official Stuck Pipe Prevention examination and, on successful completion, will be issued the licenses in their respective fields. Validity period is 2 years.

Stuck pipe prevention training or free pipe assurance training cannot be once-in-a-life time event. If we are serious in our desire to remove stuck pipe from the top three causes of lost time then a more systematic approach to training and development is required.
